Yes, it’s kinda awkward that this article is about porn, but really…get over it! The reality is that most young adults in Canada have had some sort of encounter with pornography. The stats are pretty wild:
- Canada spends over $1 billion a year on porn
- Every second, over 30,000 people are viewing porn online
- Every second, over $4,000 is being spent on pornography
Pornography is popular, and growing. While many women do suffer from addiciton to porn, the majority of individuals that are addicted are males.
The interesting fact about pornography and men, is that most men would deny surfing porn websites, including non-Christian guys. Here’s an interesting article from the Revolutionary Man website. While the writer sees nothing wrong with porn (I would disagree with that point), he does find it strange how so many men (and women) hide this secret pleasure.
The unfortunate reality is that the porn problem is rampant within the church as well. According to xxxchurch.com, 70% of people who identify themselves as Christians struggle with porn in their daily lives (and you can only assume that number is higher because some would never admit to having this problem).
So, what does someone who has a problem with pornography do? The first thing is to realize that you’re not the only one fighting – there are many other people in the same position. The second thing is to realize that you cannot have freedom while it remains a secret. The great thing about Christ-centered community is that there is no condemnation. Take the steps needed to release yourself from the grip of porn. Here’s some great resource to help:
